Mahalia's Corner has returned to Barbados, opening its latest season with an intimate night of R&B, soul and soca at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
Under the theme "Date Night – Love Vibes," Mahalia and her band 2 Mile Hill treated the audience to a mix of originals and classics from artistes including Alicia Keys, Teddy Pendergrass, Whitney Houston and Olivia Dean.
The show later shifted gears when soca veteran Lil Rick took the stage. Celebrating 30 years in soca, he began with a smoother side before turning up the energy with favourites including Bumpa Inspector, Glamour Girls, Jones and Wuk Up and Best Ting.
The evening also featured an open-mic segment and a brief interruption after a fire alarm forced the audience to leave the building. The show resumed shortly afterwards.
Mahalia's Corner, which dates back to 2009, continues this month with two more shows.
