Mottley Calls For Sparrow’s Music To Be Taught In Schools

Prime Minister Mia Mottley is calling for the music and cultural legacy of legendary calypsonian the Mighty Sparrow to be preserved for future generations.

Mottley says she intends to encourage CARICOM leaders to support the inclusion of Sparrow's song Slave in the Caribbean Examinations Council curriculum.

She praised the calypsonian for using music, satire and political commentary to challenge colonial attitudes and promote Caribbean identity.

Mottley says the region has a responsibility to preserve the contributions of cultural icons whose work helped shape Caribbean history and society.
